The week begins with the Miss West Virginia Scholarship Pageant and Most Outstanding Teen Pageant at the WVU Creative Arts Center; preliminary competition is June 23rd – June 25th and both winners will be crowned June 26th. As the state’s official preliminary to the Miss America Scholarship Program, the pageants showcase some of the most talented, educated, and socially aware women of our state. See who will wear the crown to Las Vegas! Admission is $25 - $40. For more information, visit www.misswestvirginia.org.

The West Virginia Public Theatre presents “Hairspray” at the new Morgantown Event Center. The production includes 1960s music and “downtown” rhythm and blues. “Hairspray” will be performed from June 22nd – June 27th. Admission is $35. Visit www.wvpublictheatre.org for more information.

On June 26th, Cabela’s King Kat Tournament will take place on the Monongahela River, Catfish anglers are invited to compete for cash, prizes, and a chance to advance to the Cabela’s King Kat Classic. Cabela’s King Kat Kids’ Fishing Rodeo is open to all youth 12 and younger. This event will be held at Dixon Lake and is free. Hazel Ruby McQuain Amphitheater in Riverfront Park will host additional activities including live Bluegrass music, the “Weiner Dog Race!” and the official weigh-in at 3 p.m. Don’t miss a chance to take a picture with the official Oscar Mayer wienermobile at the Amphitheater, too! The grand prize is $100 and visitors’ award winners will receive $50.
